This season is all about playful, larger than life, statement sleeves. From bell-shaped and extra-long to balloon, detached and cold-shoulder, attention grabbing sleeves are stealing the spotlight.

Previously, the word “statement” used to call to mind loud prints, structured shoulders or oversized jewelry. Now, amped up, cleverly detailed sleeves are claiming their rightful place in the world. No longer simply short, long or absent, sleeves are part of the reason our outerwear is getting so oversized. How else could we accommodate all the ruffles, poufs, frills and thrills?

It all started in London where some of the city’s most playful and respected designers toyed with the arms of their clothes. Balloon sleeves fit for princesses trickled down the runways of J.W Anderson, Gucci, Prada and Balenciaga. Seventies-inspired flared sleeves solidified their reign at Ellery, Erdem and Chanel. And the sleeve renaissance didn’t stop at bells and bubbles. Fringed, furred, fluted, feathered, airy, fairy, elongated, embellished, appliqué and puffed. You name it! Sleeves of epic proportions are taking over.

So jump on the bandwagon and join this season’s chicest trend. Go get yourself some serious arm armor and say it with sleeves!
